Tea Gardens has something for visitors of all ages from enjoying the beaches to more energetic activities like kayaking, canoeing, snorkelling, surfing, fishing, bushwalking, bird watching or discovering the wide variety of native flowers.

Enjoy the local cuisine at the various, cafes, bistros and award winning restaurants, browse through the local markets or visit one of the beautiful inland towns such as Bulahdelah, Stroud, Forster or Newcastle.

Activities

There are many things to see and do in Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest. Along the Myall River there are picnic areas, cafes and local shops as well as the ferry to Nelson Bay and there are amazing sunsets to be seen.

Boating / Watercraft hire:

You can hire a boat at the Tea Gardens Boatshed to explore the pristine waterways of the Myall Lakes.

Kayak and Canoe hire is available from 'EzyKayaks' at the beach adjacent to the boat ramp and also from 'Lazy Paddles' in Tea Gardens.

Bushwalking:

The Myall Lakes National Park is the perfect spot for bushwalking, picnics and BBQ's in a secluded natural environment. You can also choose to walk South along Bennetts Beach and climb Yaccaba Headland for an absolutely breathtaking view of the coastline.

Dolphin Watching:

Enjoy a relaxing cruise on the ferry or Simba and see the Dolphins that are plentiful in the clean waters of Port Stephens. You can often swim with the Dolphins at Bennetts Beach and it is not unusual to see them swimming along in the Myall River.

Diving / Snorkeling:

Jimmy's Beach, Barnes Rocks, the lower Myall River and Little Gibber are all popular snorkeling spots around Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest. Diving at any level is available in various spots and there are some fantastic dives to explore off Broughton Island.

Fishing:

The surrounding waterways of Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens are the absolute fishermans paradise. Local maps and tide charts can be found at the Information centre and the Sports store to help you find that perfect spot.

Golf:

Hawks Nest boasts an 18 hole all weather championship Golf course which welcomes visitors all year round.

Lawn Bowls:

The Tea Gardens Country Club maintains 2 pristinly manicured bowling greens, one grass and one synthetic, which are available for your use. They offer an introduction to bowls every Sunday at 10am for those new to the game and if you don't have your own equipment the Club has a few sets ready to lend out to you when needed.

Wildlife:

Koalas, Kangaroos, Dingoes and Birdlife are plentiful in the Myall Lakes National Park. There is also the Koala reserve which is perfect for both Koala and Kangaroo spotting. The town of Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest themselves are alive with local wildlife.

4 Wheel Driving:

There are several bush and beach tracks to get away from it all. Relax on the white sands of Bennetts Beach and little Gibber and enjoy the natural surrounds.

Maps and details on permits are available at the Information centre and the Hawks Nest Liquor Supplies.

Dining out:

Treat your tastebuds to the tantalising aromas and tastes of the local seafood from the Myall River, Port Stephens and the Tasman Ocean.  Port Stephens is one of the major oyster-growing regions in NSW so they’re plentiful and cheap!

Dine at one of the cafes or restaurants overlooking the waterfront, enjoy an ice cream or simply sit along the waterfront and have fish and chips and watch the people walk by – all this is just an easy walk from the Tea Gardens Country Club and Motel.

Dine in at the Queen's Kitchen  Restaurant right next door for authentic Italian food.
 

Local Crafts and Markets

No trip to Tea Gardens is complete without a visit to the local markets held on the 3rd Saturday of each month, or a visit to the Myall Community Arts & Craft Centre.  The perfect day out!
